another IE6 vs IE8 question

Hi,
We have a situation where an old expensive app isnt supported on anything beyond IE6 and now we have apps like the NS7 console not working on 6 - or in other words a case for virtualising a browser.
My Question is - is it better/easier/safer to virtualise backwards or forwards, i.e. to virtualise IE8 and have IE6 on the build natively or the other way around....or something else entirely.
Best regards,

I found it's best to have both virtualized or the one that doesn't need to be the default browser for apps.
So if you have apps that need IE6 they're probably looking for it in a hard coded place, depending on how the app was coded, if you can virtualize the App in question then make it a depended with the IE6 layer and then isolate from base the IE6 layer (not needed but it makes sure there's no conflict). I'd install IE8 to a layer so you get benefits of virtualization but we don't install to the standard C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer so that could cause some problems.

Both makes sense to me, btw followed your guide on doing IE8 and that seemed to work first time, even for me. :)
I've heard there is an app kicking around that can take the URL from the IE address bar and load the appropriate browser version - that sounds very useful.
