  • 1.  Antivirus disabled

    A message pops up that says something like "Symantec Antivirus Has Been Disabled".  But the Symantic Antivirus sheild does not show the universal red circle with cross hatch.  Have I been compromised?

    it sounds like for some reason your realtime protection cannot load - is the error message yellow and sort of slides up from the system tray?
     
    have you tried restarting your PC?  there may also be an error message in your windows event log.
