Created: 07 Sep 2012 • Updated: 07 Sep 2012 | 7 comments

Hi,

I have 31+ users & SEP 11.0.6005.562 installed in the server wioth console. Recently it expired. My BOSS has renewed only for server & I've received few paper.

In the main support paper these texts written "Symantic End point protection 12.1 per user renewal basic 12 months Express BAND A & License file (s)". So, if it's renewed, then what should I do now?

I would take the serial number (beginning with an M) then log in to Fileconnect.

Understanding the Downloads of Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 12.1 available on Symantec FileConnect website.

Read the docs, especially the release notes, then update from your current build.

Once you get the SEPM updated, then you need to activate the license. You can do that with the same serial number with which you download the product from Fileconnect.

hi,

You have purchases new Sep 12.1 licence.

you can download for https://fileconnect.symantec.com/ using your licence no.

First you need to upgrade your Endpoint protection manager (SEPM)  from 11.0.6 ---> 12.1 and than you can upgrade SEP clients.

SEPM 12.1 can managed SEP client 11.0.6 however Symantec recommends you  to be on same version for manager and client.

Hi All,

Thanks for suggestions. I will check the links & try to act accordingly. But here I am giving you the full fact:

The history is - 1st We've purchased total 11 licensed with management console. And others are purchased later. SEP informed about the expiration date of those 11 license in time. We've decided to renew only 1 license which is installed in the server PC. So, I've get a ".slf" file also with the renewal support paper. Now what about other 10 client PCs? they are in 11.0 version & I will not renew them now.

Finally I've to upgrade SEPM from 11.x - 12.1 in the server PC& its versuio will be changed.

You got my point?

Hi,

You can be manage SEPM 12.1 to SEP 11 Client.

Thanks In Advance

You had 11 seperate license files (with a number of seats each), or 11 seats on one license? It is not clear what you mean.

SEP 11 did not have a software licensing component. If they are no longer covered by a valid license (are not going to be managed by the SEP 12.1.x manager), they should be uninstalled.

Hi,

I've "11 seats on one license".

sandra.g's picture

I believe that a license will be counted as used by every client managed in the SEPM, whether it is 11.x or 12.1. Your 11 seats on one license would cover 11 computers (physical or virtual). The management console component does not use a license, but the protection installed to the SEPM does. In other words, 11 licenses would cover the SEPM server's SEP client and 10 additional SEP clients.

Now what about other 10 client PCs? they are in 11.0 version & I will not renew them now.

Technically, these are out of licensing compliance & should be uninstalled.
