Any changes to Ghost in the past week?

I have images created for some HP desktop computers, I used them 3 weeks ago with no problems.  Today I had to push the image (that works) to another machine, no errors while imaging.  I rebooted after the image completed and the OS is gone.  I thought I did something wrong, I tried it again on another machine, same thing - no OS.  I tried another model of computer with a known good image, it too had the os disappear.

Can anyone tell what the problem is?  User error?  I already updated the BIOS.

Hi Nicole,

Since nothing should have changed in Ghost in the past week, probably you would have found the cause already.

However, I presume that you use Console. In that case, what was the state of the machine when you deploy the image? (i.e. was it in Winodws/Dos, Virtual Partition or PXE ect.)

Not fixed yet.
I do boot up with Windows not PXE.  If there is problems in the network which we just fixed, could this make the os disappear?  I have done nothing different from the past few weeks through this week.  Just done see why or how the os is gone.

Hi Nicole,

Since you have seen the cloning process going through, most likely situation here is not updating MBR with the correct information. It could be MBR was not updated, but I cannot think of a reason yet.

What kind of a network issue you had? If it causes the clone session to hang at the last minute, the outcome could be undefined.

One option is to use Gdisk (booting the machine using a CD/Floppy etc.) and see what you have in the disk. I'm not sure the exact wording in your error message, but it could be not making the partition active.

The network problems I had were thought to be DNS issues but we did find one school was the cause and shut them down.  Once they were down my network was working fast again.

I researched the error which I forgot what it was but it pertained to the SysPrep was the wrong one.  We have tried using different sysprep by dates but we started other problems..... not being able to work with my dhcp server to loosing the os again.

There are several different problems I have going on with ghosting now.  Two models have the problem above and one model freezes during uploading and another machine takes 4 days to create an image.

Hi Nicole,

In your first post you said you could image them successfully couple of weeks back.

Now do you get all these issues in the same machines?

These problems that I have reported are new.  I have the same models in computer labs which imaged to my machine with no problems.  I am now working on teacher machines which are the same model.  I'm using the same image but I'm uninstalling software from the lab machines and trying to reimage up to my image.  This is where I'm getting the error that the system is not fully loaded.  This is actually off of two separate model machines.

Another problem I am having, nx6125 by HP are laptops.  They freeze while trying to send image to laptop.  OR is says it's timed out.

Another problem, nx6325 by HP, also laptops.  These machines take 4 days to try to image from Ghost Cast to laptops, then it ends up timeing out.

Hi Nicole,

Regarding HP notebooks, could you have a look at the thread

https://forums.symantec.com/syment/board/message?b...

most probably you are facing the same issue.

About the other machine in which the OS disappear after cloning, are there any diskdrive tools such as disk drive overlay drivers installed?

To fix the NX 6325 issue;

If booting from PXE, CD or Floppy and the ghost screen apppears, quit and go back to DOS then type "Ghost  -NOIDE" and the NX 6325 as well as the newer NX6515b will imaged quickly. The problem is the 6325/6515 have SATA drives rather than an IDE drive and Ghost for what ever reason wants to talk to the IDE drive that's not there.
