Any problems when upgrading to NB 5.1 MP5
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 4 comments
Hello,
We have one clustered master server running Solaris 9 OE a three of media servers running Solaris 9 OE and a MS Windows media server. MP4 is installed both on everywhere. Is there any known common problems when upgrading to MP5?
Thank you very much in advance.

Hi Anton
Four weeks ago, I upgraded a combined Master/media server 5.1MP3A to 5.1MP5 on
Solaris 8.
The upgrade run smoothly and so far, I have not had any problems. In short, I am not aware
of any common upgrading problems.
kind regards,
Stefan
Yes, upgrade from MP4 to MP5 is very smooth!
If you've done an MP install before, you will have no problems with this upgrade.
i upgraded our remote site (Solaris 8) from MP3a to MP5 a couple months ago (no issues) and our local site (Solaris 9) about 3weeks ago, again no issues. (was happy enough on MP3a, but saw the slew of Disk Staging fixes in MP5 so it was rude not to upgrade. One 'bug' we were suffering from in Disk Staging was that the Staging area would fill up, various jobs would fail and not always restart properly. Not good. I got around that by having a script running that would delete all images that had been successfully swept to tape whenever the staging area hit 90% full. This worked really well, our Staging area is too small so fills in less than 2weeks. When we went MP5 i turned off the cleardown script (3weeks ago) and the Staging area has been houskeeping itself as best as i can tell (ok what i mean is, i haven't got around to seeing what MP5 is doing as regards to the (i think it's 80%) threshold) :)
Yes. Upgrade to NetBackup 5.1 MP5 is smooth and troublefree. Its also a nice platform to upgrade to 6.x later.

Karthik
