  • 1.  Any Specific limit on maximum number of content revisions

Hi Guys , I just need to know is there any theoratical limit on the number of content revisions that we can set on SEP 12.1.6 MP3 ? I believe we cannot go beyond than 180 that is worth of 2 months of definations.  I know that it will consume excessive Disk space but the at the same time I am also wondering that since SEP 12.1.6 has efficent and optimized mechanism for storing content definations so it shouldn't be a problem.

Would appreciate your feedback and input. Thanks

If you have the disk space and powerful hardware, there really isn't. Two months should be plenty. If clients are off longer than that, they should be getting updates from Symantec LU.

The best practice guide on content revisions can be read here:

I think 180 is the limit because it's just not possible to insert a bigger number :)

BTW, let's assume there is a client that needs 179 content revisions. In this case a SEPM covering 180 content revisions has to create on the fly a really big delta file (don't know how big, but I assume in the three-digit MB realm). That may be hard work for the SEPM. Perhaps it's easier and faster in many cases if the client will get a full content file. Depends on your environment, hardware, bandwidth and so on.

Thanks for the reply Brian and Greg , but keeping into consideration that we have GUPs and SEPM ( having 180 content revisions )  in the envoirement so even if the client comes online that needs 170 or 180 content revisions so it shouldnt be any issue becuase SEPMs already have ample revisions , and what is requested by client already comes within this range.

    Correct.

that right, sepm should be able to provide the definition without any issues. and finally you cannot go beyond 180 revisions in SEPM coz that's hard coded and greg pointed out earlier we are not sure how big the delta would be, so maybe symantec has kept a limitation for a reason.
