Anyone integrated SAP into Altiris

mickwearn's picture

Hi,

We have learned that we should be able to integrate SAP in to the Altiris asset solution. our aim is... when the Asset manager updates the status in SAP to decommissioned, this will be imported into Altiris an affect that assets individual asset status. thus removing the need for the service centre to manually have to set the status

The SAP tables are hundredous.. and where not really sure which table we need.. actually making the connection look suite easy.. but just not sure what to connect to.

Any advice or ideas?

Thanks

Great Idea!

It has been suggested by another member..

To export form SAP as CSV and import this into Altiris.. which works really well..
But now I ask..

What we are trying to do... and I’m just trying to find out if it is possible, (worry about the how later) is..

We want to import the room/location details into Altiris, and set an asset status based upon that.

so if a workstation is located in Store Room 1, then the asset status will chage to Store Room 1, or if the location is Disposed then the asset status will be Decommissioned.

Does any one even know if this is possible?

Thanks.
Mick.

SAP into Altiris

We are currently exporting from SAP into a CSV file then into Altiris. It took a while for the SAP folks to get around to setting it up for us, but it has been working well for about 1 year now. We are taking purchasing info from SAP based on columns we had asked for and exporting it to the CSV, then running 3 imports against it. We are populating PO Numbers, Software purchases and Hardware purchases with it using connectors that runs daily. We did have some quirky things with leading zeroes in our PO numbers, etc... but we found a workaround for most of them.
To answer your question about setting the status, yes you can set the status of a computer at the time of the import. You have to select 'Asset's Status' from the Associations Mappings in the Import Rule. Set the Lookup Key to 'Value' and select the Status. Obviously, you would have to create a custom status for each of your locations beforehand.
Hope this helps....

Automatically add asset to location

You might want to check the post 'Automatically add asset to location". It has a solution regarding managing locations. It sounds like you are trying to use "Status" to manage your locations, which might not be the best answer. Status is good for Active,  Retired, Disposed, etc... Location will let you know where it is physically located.
Hope this helps...
