  • 1.  App Center iOS Invites not being received

    Posted Apr 15, 2013 04:40 AM

    Hi,

We are currently provisioning a set of ipad with Symantec App Center. Each ipad has its own unique iCloud account attached for mail. Out of 15 currently provisioned 3 devices won't receive the email invite from the Symantec app center. The email accounts work correctly, and can send and receive email perfectly but when sending an invite out from the online app center it never reaches the device.

Currently solutions tried: Deleting current invite from the "invited" users and re inviting. Clicking "resend invite". Logging out and in, and using different browsers. Checked in junk etc on the online icloud account...

For some reason these email addresses just don’t seem to work from the Symantec point of view.

If you could let me know of any possibly causes / solutions that would be great.

    Regards, William.

It's likely being caught as spam, if you're sending through iCloud.  Have you tested by configuring a Gmail or other free account, configuring it on an iPad, and sending to that new address?  iCloud sometimes strips messages entirely without placing them in Junk.  If your SMTP server for App Center is not a true mail server but is instead an SMTP service on the App Center server itself (e.g. for testing purposes), this increases the risk it will be caught as spam.

Otherwise, if you want to PM me the e-mail addresses, perhaps there are invalid characters.

Does this happen whether you send it to just one address, or only when you send it to multiple addresses using commas to separate?

    Hello,

We have 90 devices which are in numerical order, i.e. myemail55@icloud.com, myemail56@icloud.com

For 86 of the devices these emails have gone through fine from the app center SMPT Service, so the emails are getting through most of the time which is why I don't see why it could be gettign caught as spam as the accounts are all set up in an identical way.

We are currently reconfiguring the devices from scratch, but I don't think that will affect this issue as it is the icloud account itself (after checking online) which is not receiveing the pushed emails...

I am wondering if it was due to the invites being sent form app center before the email accounts were fully provisioned, and now when resending the invite the app center isn't managing to push them through properly.. Although I have deleted the invited user account and re invited so that should have theoretically sorted that.

I will also try creating another alias on the same iCloud account, and deleting the iCloud account to free up that email address to try again.....

    very baffling...

    Hello,

We have done some tests and come to a conclusion on the source of the issue...

It appears that if you open an icloud account on the device as part of the device provisioning, and then send an invite to this device from app center before the email account is fully provisioned (setup?) it will then not receive further emails from the app center....

I don't know if they are getting stripped as junk, or whether the app center if refusing to push them through as the initial email has been bounced back to the symantec email server as an invalid email address already perhaps?...

    Does anyone have any ideas?...

    Regards, W.
