AppFolder not showing up in Explorer after Layer activation
Hi everyone. From time to time we encounter the issue, that the AppFolder (like ProgramFiles\AppA) doesn't show up after layer activation. The folder can be created and deleted manually, however the app is not 'there' after activation. Neither a reset nor reimport of the layer help. However, that layer works fine on several other workstations. We use SVS 2.1.3064 - 2.1.3071. It happens with all of them. How can I troubleshoot this one?
There are related cases where I can't delete that folder even after deactivation of the layer or a reboot. It seems explorer-related somehow.
Thanks for any hints in advance.
Check Permissions
It seems that on some of our layers, that somehow permissions on the files and folders get screwed up. I use cacls after the import to manually set permissions on the application folder, as well as any Desktop shortcuts or Start Menu items.

Did you reset the machine
Did you reset the machine after the install? because that's the only instance I can think of where this would happen.

No reset has taken place
No, we didn't reset the machine. It was a newly installed one. Anyway, after reinstalling it again, it worked like a charm. However, I'm pretty sure that this will happen one day again.
Once again today...
I'm just returning from supporting a client with that behavior again.
And here's what I did (without success at the end):
I wasn't able to delete the Programs Folder (i.e. ProgramFiles\AppA) with the logged in user (which is a Power User on WinXP SP3, newly imaged) even after deactivating the layer.
I logged in as the local Administrator. There I was finally able after renaming the folder to i.e. AppA_OLD to remove it. After I've found out that the folder still didn't reappear after activating the layer, a deactivated it again and created an empty folder in cmd using the md command.
Still no luck activating the layer.
But the crazy thing just comes here: I finally decided to manually copy the necessary files into the newly manually created folder to just enable the user to work again since it's just a very simple app.
But the Windows copy job told me that there is alredy a file with the same name!!!!! However, it is still invisible.
And now I need to reinstall the workstation because of that...
Hopefully this helps to examine the issue.
We've been recently seeing
We've been recently seeing some strange issues where explorer cannot see virtualized files yet they're on the system (the command line can see them) or when there are a significant number of items in a virtual folder explorer stops seeing some non-virtualized items.
It's really strange and appears to be the same issue you've encountered, to check to see if it's the same issue there are two things you can do:
1) Use the cmd.exe to navigate and list the items in the folder, they should all be there
2) using Run or explorer's address bar type a full path to an invisible file to open (like c:\Program Files\test\test.txt) and it should open despite explorer not seeing it.

Is there any news on this?
I'm once again on such a problem machine. I can confirm that I encounter the exact same issue as you described above. At first, all files were visible in cmd but not in Explorer. However, after deleting the layer, setting the correct permissions on the folder (the part that remained in the base), deleting the folder and reimporting the layer, now I can't see the app folder in either way!
I worry that I need to reinstall the whole client...
