  • 1.  Application Error; LiveUpdate EventID 56

    All,

I am experiencing an issue with Symantec Backup Exec 11 M4. The system seems to have stopped retrieving and pushing updates. My clients all have updates from 8/24, and the manager has defs from 10/4 but has not pushed them out. Inside the manager it also states that the symantec def file information could not be found.

I imagine this is an issue with the Management server, however I am replacing an old SA and have no idea what the DBA password is, or if its an embedded database or SQL. I admit that I am somewhat of a SEPM novice as well.

About 3 errors a minute in event viewer:
The description for Event ID ( 56) in Source (LiveUpdate) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary negotiation information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer...

Would the best idea be to re-install SEPM and reconfigure a new database? I am not sure if there is anyway to manipulate the old database as I am the new SA.

    Thanks All in advance.

    Hi jdeitel,

What version of SEPM are you using?  What other Symantec software is on the same server, other that BE?

This is not a common error.  I have seen similar case from a couple years ago, but they were Event ID (55) and Event ID (58).  Those were fixed in releases of the product since then.  If upgrading to the latest release of the software for your SEPM (SEP 11 RU5) does not solve the issue, then it is probably best to contact Technical Support.  They can give your instructions on how to replace the definitions on a SEPM with known good ones.

(They can also help you to recover a forgotten database password, too!)

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks and best regards,

    Mick
