HI

1. Back up the Registry by creating a restore point.
2. Go to Start > Run (or Windows-key + R), type in regedit and hit OK.
3. Navigate to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cla sses\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Wi ndows\CurrentVersion \TrayNotify.
4. Delete the values IconStreams and PastIconsStream.
5. Open up the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), go to the Processes tab, select explorer.exe and click End Process.
6. Open the Applications tab and click New Task at the bottom-right of the window.
7. In the message box that pops up type in explorer.exe and hit OK.
8. Explorer.exe will reload, and the missing icons should now be back in the system-tray where they belong.
9. Then if the volume bar isnt there, go to taskbar properties (where the volume was gray) and simply tick the box.

hi take registry back up and try

  • Click on "Start" and scroll to "Run." Type "regedit" or "regedit.exe" in the run dialog box and press the "Ok" button to open your Windows Registry box.

  • Double-click the folder, "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" in the left pane of the Registry. Scroll down and look for "icofile" in the left panel. Double-click "icofile." You will see two subdirectories below it: "DefaultIcon" and "Shell."

  • Double-click "DefaultIcon" folder. In the right panel, double-click "Default" under the "Name," which opens a dialog box. Make sure the value is default under "Value" at the top. Type in two digits, "%1" in "Value Data" field.

  • Close the Registry window so it will be automatically saved. Restart your computer and check if your unknown file type icon has returned back to its known file type icon.
  • If this Info helps to resolve the issue please Mark as Solution

    Sameer...

Could just be the rights on the (if default) "C:\documents and settings\all users" folder have gotten mucked up.

Are you logged in with administrative rights or regular rights?

    Logon as Administrator,

From a command prompt on 1 machine, try

    CACLS "C:\Documents and settings\all users" /E /T /C /G everyone:F

See if that fixes your problem.

    hi sameer

    Finally try this and see

    EXPLORER.EXE corrupted or infected?

    1. open registry  then go to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution.options

    2. Under this key there will be subkeys named explorer.exe and iexplorer.exe. Delete the explorer and iexplorer keys entirely. They should not be listed under the Image File Execution.Options key.
    3. Close the Registry Editor.
    4. Restart the computer.

If this Info helps to resolve the issue please Mark as Solution

    Thanks
