Application Identity & preferred order of install
Hello. I'm dev'ing/testing out the Altiris Client Management Suite for our environment. I have two questions.
#1 - (and probably really easy) - as a best practice would it be better to instal MS SQL 2008 first, before the Client Management Suite. Or the Client Management Suite first.
#2 - (and this is the one that is really causing me some trouble) - I've been reviewing Ziggys documentation and it has really been very helpful. Mainly I'm referencing the following:
http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/how-insta...
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/h...
What I'm running into on both articles is how he mentions "Add the AppID" in a few places. Admittedly I am really unfamiliar with this in Windows Server 2008. I've been hitting up Google, but I'm striking out. Is there anyone that can shed a little more detailed light on this so that I can better understand it.
Thanks!

Best Practice is to install SQL first, and better with the account that will be use as service account on the SMP. So it get proper rights on the Database from the start.
This then also answer to the second question as the Application (SQL) get configure with the SMP service account. If you are on a domain then when setting SQL, you can add both sa account with the Active Directory account for Authetification.
For CMS the account credentials will be asked when installation is done at the end of the process.

When Altiris 5.5 was written it used COM Applications to work, which required an account to be used as an "Application Identity" and that term has been used often since to describe what really now is a straightforward Service Account.
According to the SMP Install Guide you just need an account with local admin rights on the NS.
