  • 1.  Application metering - cannot block application when ran as a process

    Hello

    We have SMP 7.1.

    I successfully set up my blacklisted application policy to block BitTorrent / uTorrent applications from running when the user executes the application directly. However, I noticed on computer startup, BitTorrent and uTorrent startup automatically as background processes and my policy was not able to block them.

    Is there a workaround to this problem? How can I block these applications from ever running automatically on computer startup or as background processes?

    Hello

    I am also considering executing a powershell script (deployed via a task) on user logon to kill the process. That will force the user to launch the torrent application via the .exe file and Application metering can then block its execution.Just an idea I have yet to test.

    Please let me know if anyone of you have any suggestions/solutions

    Hi efyuze,

    I have 7.6 release and I see that:

    1. If I have already started up OS and AppMetering agent has policy to block usage of "Far.exe" and "w3wp.exe" then on attempt to start these programs it doesn't allow to start them.

    2. If I'll stop Symantec Management Agent service -> then I'm able to start "Far.exe" and "w3wp.exe" on client PC, but after Symantec Management Agent service startup, it successfully determines that both programs are running and terminates them.

    3. If I'll reboot PC, then on OS startup I see that both programs aren't running and are blocked by AppMetering agent.

    Did you make sure that you have all required .exe specified within a program which you would like to block to run on appropriate client PC? How looks your Rule in App Metering policy?
