    Hello All,

I have been asked to prepare a metering report for ms visio, and I am running into some problems while trying to execute the report. The issue I am facing is when I try to drill down to computers with executable usage for a small Installed Count I get the report, but if I select a bigger number of Installed Count the report times out. I have attached the screenshot for reference.

Any help / suggestions / in resolving this would be appreciated.

Could you please look at the Altiris Log Viewer for errors or warnings?

This can easily be resolved by increasing the Command timeout settings.

    • From the tabs at the top select Settings>All Settings
    • From the tree on the left, expand Settings>Notification Server
    • Click on the Database Settings
    • Adjust the Command timeout according to the needs of your report.

This should just get you what you need. Don't go overboard, but make incremental adjustments.

Does it mean that this error message, which is shown on your screenshot, doesn't relate to timeout of SQL Query execution? Because in case of timeout there should be another error message in UI of Report console.

I agree. But based on his first symptoms, where he could run the report against a small number of clients, but not a large number of client computers, I would start with the Command timeout.

In either case, should it error out, I would then suggest posting the error log entry.

    Hello All,

The Command Timeout Settings is set to 1600 seconds, do you still want that to be increased, also now I see a different error to, time out one which Igor was reffering to., please let me know what more can be done here.

    Thanks

That timeout is sufficient.  If you are running 7.1.2 MP1.1 please ensure that you have installed at least the v6RU (v9RU is the latest) as it contains improvements to that report.

If you are already on v9RU, then run the report with the LogViewer open as it captures the sql used.  You can then run that sql directly against the database to see how long it takes to complete.

If you are running 7.5, what HF are you on?

Did you measure that report execution run 1600 sec and times out or it has been timed out after 600 sec as it is in SQL Server Connection settings?

Try to decrease date range in report for a week or two weeks.

    Performance of this report.....

    Hello Igor,

I decreased the date range to 15 days and tried a bigger number of Installed Count and I was able  to get the report, again if I choose the date range for a month the report fails. I did run this report (15 days) with the DB Command Timeout @ 1600 seconds.

SK - we are running on 7.1.SP2 MP 1.1 but I am unsure how to check the ru version, could you please giude me.

    Thanks

Okay, so my suspicion turned out right. Actually, you don't need to purge data that much. What you really need to do is to add index or two on Inv_Monthly_Summary. I've optimized our SMP SQL with additional indexes on large tables like AM and my reports run faster.
