This issue has been solved. See solution.

Is someone able to confirm this or help with a solution to our problem.
We currently have 2 EV sites, each one in a different country.A user has just moved here and is trying to access their archived email and we are seeing the below error in the logs
Event Type: Warning
 Event Source: Enterprise Vault
 Event Category: Web Application (WP)
 Event ID: 6287
 Date:  17/07/2012
 Time:  16:55:00
 User:  N/A
Unable to fetch item from "".
Reason: The RPC server is unavailable.  (0x800706ba)
 Saveset Id: 201205076427549~201202070927000000~Z~E0C65002DB0214AA27A66E5DB936B9B1
 Archive Name: Username
 Archive Folder Path: Sent Items
 Reference: [GOAFS]
I'm thinking the solution is lying in the Desktop policy, where you can set the 'RPC over HTTP' settings?
We have that configured in the UK so the proxy URL goes through ISA and is then directed to our EV servers, however I'm not sure how it's configured (yet) in the other site.
In the UK the URL is set as
My questions are, is this correct or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Should we just be able to give the other site a different proxy URL, so that it still hits ISA but it then rediected to the other site? For example call it Now that obviously doesn't exist in IIS, but can we simply rename that or will it break everything?
The users mailbox is currently hosted in the UK which only connects to the UK EV servers. If we move the mailbox back then it'll work again, however in a company where users travel between countries, there mailbox do get moved between countries.
Is anyone able to assist in this?

this post should be just what you're trying to do

as the original poster was told by support:

Under desktop policy - Advanced tab - Outlook - WebAPPUrl - should be in below format:

On desktop policy of Enterprise vault in Site A, WebAppURL will be:

[Site B]=

vice versa on other site.

Ah. Thanks Andrew. I didn't see that one.

I'll give that a try

Hi Andrew, thanks for the other article however I still get the error. My Web Application URL config is below

UK setup (Site A) - We have 4 EV servers

Overseas (Site B) - 1 EV server

On UK side

Oversea Side

I should point out that both EV sites are in the same domain, however use different service accounts. Is this a permissions issue? The users do have access to their vault in the other sites

I also found this regarding EV ports. I can telnet between the servers on 135 and 5114 however not 1024, 2101, 2103 and 2105. Are these important?

if you go to from the UK side do you see the archives?

try it like this in your desktop policy:

On UK side

Oversea Side

I can access it from my machine and from the servers. However strangely from the UK i cannot access itself? I get prompted for credentials...

Site A can connect to Site B and visa versa.

Site B can connect to itself from its server

Site A (the UK) cannot connect to itself. I get prompted for credentials after about a 5 minute wait. The IIS service (w3wp.exe) runs at close to 100% during the connect attempt

Also tried the new policy settings with no luck. The same Event ID error is logged

I've also tried resetting IIS, slightly faster, but still fails

Something i missed from the last comment....

Yes I can connect to the other servers via the browser, however no vaults are visable

From Site A (UK), under the Search option, I see no vaults

From Site B, all I see it All Public Folders

Is this sounding like a permissions issue?

Issues resolved.

Changes made to get this working;

Site A = UK

Site B = Middle East

Site A Desktop Policy;
* Add Site B EV alias to 'Add server to Intranet Zone' - (Site B EV alias - NOT SITE NAME)
* Add Web Application URL -   [Site B EV alias]=http://Site B EV SITENAME/EnterpriseVault

Site B EV Server
Add Site A service account to Power Administrator in EV Authorization Manager
Give Site A service account Full Control on ME users vault
