Hello All

I have a question about the behaviour of archived items when added as attachments.

my users are using the outlook add item or drag and drop an archived email into a new email to be sent on to a different user.

the problem is that this just sends the stub and not the whole mail is there a setting i can change to get ev to send the whole mail.

it's been suggested that if i give the users restore access to the archived email that this function will work but i don't want give users this access as i don't want them to be able to restore emails and then delete them while restored and we lose that email from the vault.

is there away i can set it up so the users can restore an item but still leave a copy in the vault. so that even if the unarchived item is deleted the archived copy stays ?

i've also been told that these a setting that if an email is double clicked it will temporarlly restore to the mailbox and could be forwarded then after 24 hours be reachived can any one confirm any of the above

(sorry i did do the mainagment training but after 3 years of these rules being ok they have now decided they want it changed)

Regards

Michael

Hi Groombro,

If the users restore an EV shortcut, the archived item is not removed from the vault, unless they have permissions to delete from the archive. A workaround could be to forward the EV shortcut. In the Desktop policy, Advanced tab, Outlook section, there is a setting called "Forward original item", check if this setting is set to Original, which means that if users try to forward an EV shortcut, they will forward the whole item without actually restoring the email.

I hope this helps.

When a user restores an item from the archive, the item also stays in the archive. So what you're saying above is not possible.  If you give your users 'delete from archive' capabilities, then that of course is different.

This isn't true..  Maybe someone has this confused a little with how archived items are retrieved when using Outlook Web App.  Those items are restored to the deleted items folder as a hidden message, temporarily, and then cleaned up later. So not something that the user can see, do or make use of.
