Archived mails are automatically marked as unread in outlook while using enterprise vault

Archived mails are automatically marked as unread in outlook while using enterprise vault  . This happens normally with some of the users where the archived mails automatically turn to an unread state
 
Any help would be appreciated
 
MS Exchange 2003
Vault Server :- EV 6.0

Are these items in a Public Folder by any chance?
