Upgraded to v7.1 SP2 yesterday. I also removed the Dell Management Console because it wasn't the Client Manager that I thought it was, and not what I needed. All seemed to be fine until today when I tried to edit a computer.

This is what I get when I try to edit: "An error occurs when loading the page, please check the log for detail."

Real descriptive. So I check the logs and see absolutely nothing that even remotely resembles that error - no errors, warning or informational messages.

Resource Manager comes up fine. Create/Edit Resource - this unidentifiable error.

On my Soapbox - In v6.x the error would display in the browser. I didn't have to remote control the server, run the log viewer, and then try to figure out which message pertains to the error I received. Off the Soapbox.

Further research shows that this is only happening on Computer assets and none of the other assets.

Anyone have any ideas what this could be?

    A little more information...

URL that gets the error: http://servername/Altiris/AssetContractCommon/Manager/EditCreateResource.aspx?itemguid="GUID"

    Still nothing in the Altiris logs. IIS shows that the page was proper provided: 2012-02-22 19:11:48 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx GET /Altiris/AssetContractCommon/Manager/EditCreateResource.aspx itemguid='GUID' 80 LOGIN NAME xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+7.0;+Windows+NT+6.1;+WOW64;+Trident/5.0;+SLCC2;+.NET+CLR+2.0.50727;+.NET+CLR+3.5.30729;+.NET+CLR+3.0.30729;+Media+Center+PC+6.0;+InfoPath.3;+.NET4.0C;+.NET4.0E;+MS-RTC+LM+8) 200 0 0 2765

Entries were scrubbed for security reasons - x's are IP addresses, servername is correct in the browser, GUID is correct for the computer being edited, and LOGIN NAME is correct in the log.

The 200 on the line means that IIS did what it was supposed to do. Altiris/SMC just didn't return the information. I would guess from this that the IIS log isn't going to tell me anything and that the Altiris log viewer should show something, but not from what I can see.

    Any ideas?

The Dell solutions don't uninstall very cleanly always, support have scripts to help clean up items left behind.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was afraid it might be something like that. Resource Manager works just fine and I would think that would be the one to cause problems with Dell Management Console.

I've opened a case with Support. We'll see what happens...

The ticket I created specifically asked for scripts to clean up the Dell Management Console, but all they wanted to do was remote control my computer to see the error for themselves. I sent them screenshots and haven't heard from them since.

I did a repair of the SMP and tried to edit a computer again, and this finally showed up in the log viewer:

    Priority: 2

I sent another request to Support for the scripts to clean up the Dell Management Console this morning...

Re-installing the Dell Management Console has fixed the problem, but that puts me back to where I started. I want to get rid of the Dell Management Console. I have no need for it since we don't manage servers with SMP.

Waiting for support to supply scripts to do the uninstall of DMC.

Turns out support doesn't have a script that works on 7.1 SP2 to remove traces of DMC. The one script they had didn't work - SQL not on the same box I suspect. The solution - contact Dell and hopefully get a script from Dell support.
