  • 1.  Assets Magically Changing to Active From In Stock? Suggestions?

    Posted Sep 01, 2016 12:08 PM

We just implimented parts of asset management and some things we are seeing are that assets we have in our stock rooms marked with an In Stock Status seem to change back to active without any communication or manual change.

They are sitting on a shelf with no connectivity

I checked into a couple and saw that they all changed at 7:10 AM on a Sunday and it doesn't show it was done by a policy or user in Asset History, just says In Stock Deleted and Active Added.

I also found at least one machine that changed from In Stock to Retired, will the purge setting do this for non Active Assets?  I was assuming if its marked in stock purge would ignore it since its something thats not connected and actively reporting.  This status change does show it was done at 2:10 AM by Symantec Administrators, so assuming this is a policy or replication since I do have a heirarchy.

Any thoughts or suggestions on where I should check.  I haven't checked the NS logs directly yet as I am not sure if they go back to the date I found for the changes yet, but thats my next step.

    Hi SonicGT,

    1. Asset status can be replicated since 8.0 HF1 release and only via "Resource" Stand-alone replication rule but not in hierarchy replications.

    https://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/how-replicate-asset-status-between-80-hf1-servers-using-stand-alone-replication-rule

Check your \Settings\Notification Server\Resource and Data Class Settings\Resource Associations\ "Asset's Status" .xml via mouse right click menu on it. By default it should has these settings:

    •   <replicationImportMode>Add</replicationImportMode>
    •   <hierarchyReplicationMode>Skip</hierarchyReplicationMode>

    2. Maybe you have "Set Asset Status" task scheduled which runs @02:10 AM?. Open SMP Console ⇒ "Settings" ⇒ "All Settings" ⇒ expand "Notification Server" folder ⇒ click on "Internal Schedules Calendar" ⇒ try to find what is scheduled to run @02:10 AM

    3. Hope that you've already found/checked NS logs and know what is a root cause of asset status changing.

    Thanks,

    IP.
