Assign barcode suffix to job type

Created: 03 Feb 2011 • Updated: 21 Feb 2011 | 3 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

We have Backup Exec 12.5

What we are looking to setup a long term tape archiving solution, 12 months, and identify the job types which are on the tape by suffix/prefix

Is it possible to have backup jobs assigned to tapes with barcode suffix? Eg. File server *1L3, Exchange *2L3

If there is a better solution to this I'm willing to listen?

I doubt what you are saying can e done. The reason for this is that Job name is an individual parameter and can not be modified by running query against any other parameter.

In simple words, entering Job name is manual process which is done while creating the job. So it can not be changed as per the Media used for the job.

Thanks,

You cannot really use the suffix as it is used to identify the type of tape, in your case, L3 for LTO3.  The suffix should not be changed.

However, you have the 6 characters prefix to play with.  You can label your tapes as SxxxxxL3 for server tapes and ExxxxxL3 for Exchange tapes.  You then create a different media set for each type of tapes and associate the correct type of tapes to the media sets.  Your jobs can then target these media set to write the appropriate tapes.

Thanks for the advice; pkh

It'll take me a while to have all the sets created but I'm sure that'll do what I'm looking for
