assigned jobs keep appearing empty on new PC's
Hi All,
Got a real odd one here. We've taken delivery for 25 PC's which we have added into DS 6.9 SP3 and assigned the imaging and software deployment jobs to them. The idea is that when we come to actually deploy them (this week), we choose the relevant PC and away it goes. This has worked perfectly for us in the past and we have done 100's of PC's like this.
However, for some odd reason, all the assigned jobs, the tasks within that jobs are missing.
Let me explain somemore. If I create a new PC and then look at our imaging job, I can see that it removes the PC from the domain, deploys an image, runs a script and then joins the domain. However when I drag this job to the new PC, all those items seemed to have vanished.
It's the same with software deploy jobs as well. Any jobs dragged to a new PC, it appears on the PC as an empty job.
Has anyone come across this before?
Any help gratfully received as we're desperate to deploy these new PC's.
Many thanks
Leonard

Conditions
You don't by chance have conditions on the job, do you?

No conditions are on the job. It's as if the tasks are being removed from the job when I apply it to the new PC.
I've tried to deploy a existing software job to a new PC and the job shows as no tasks inside it. If I drag the same job to an existing live PC, it deploys ok.
Job history
Is there anything in the computer history in DS? You are right, this is an odd problem.

Hi.
Last year i had similir problems with our Deployment Server.
I found the solution for this in KB Article kb.altiris.com/display/1n/kb/article.asp
The porblem was that our LDF was growing to large. If i drop a new job on a client the database was to slow. Then the Job was empty and nothing happens on the client.
I hope this will help you.

Hmm, that could be the solution. Just had a quick look and our eXpress.mdf is 221mb in size but the eXpress_log.ldf is a massive 38GB in size. Yikes!!!!
Just backing everything up before I try the solution above. I'll post back if it fixes things.

I think 38 Gb is really big :-) We had 5 Gb and this was too mutch.

Not good news. The KB above worked and I managed to squeeze that 38GB file down to about 3mb. I thought it had fixed the problem as the deploy job tasks appeared on the new PC but after a reboot of the server, they were not showing. So still have the same problem.
I'm just in the process of creating a self extracting image from my rapideploy image. The plan is to get these Windows 7 PC's onto our network, run this self executing image deploy which will deploy Windows XP and hopefully then I'll be able to deploy software via the console. It's about the only way I can see of getting these PC's working for Monday.
I've also tried reinstalling the Deployment console again but that didn't seem to fix it.
I think existing PC's are ok. So if I deploy software to an existing PC, it works. It's only if I deploy to a new PC that hasn't been created that the tasks disapear.

Hi Leonard,
To make sure you don't get this exploding LDF issue again, you can set the eXpress database options set the "Recovery Model" to simple. This means all backups will be full backups, and recovery will be less granular, but its its not like the eXpress database is a financial system....
Next, I'd check you windows and SQL event logs to see if there are any errors being thrown up.
Kind Regards,
Ian./
