Asset Management Suite

Hello,

I have a question about Assets and Inventory, mainly around accurately assigning a Location Resource Type, in this case being one of our office locations, to a computer asset based on the first three letters of the computer name. For example having a task or job that automatically assigns a ATLXXXXX laptop to the ATL office Resource Type Location where it would then show up under the ATL Assets in AMS.

I have the following tasks enabled under Asset, however assets are still not populating in the office location correctly, or at all:

Inventory to Asset Task enabled

Update Network Resource Location Task enabled

Is the Network Resource Location different from the Asset Location? Maybe this is why i getting confused to why these are not automatically showing up under locations.

Hi Canuck

You can use CMDB rules to populate the Location onto your.

Create a rule per location and run these rules with task server once every day, to location update.

1. Create new rule

2. Choose resource type = computer

3. Choose logic expression

• Resource name
• Like
• ATL%    (f.ex.)

4. Choose Resource Association

• Asset to Location
• Set Location value

One thing, we do not have the Connector Solution currently installed, but do have CMDB, assuming i will need the Connector to create this rule? hence why this may not all be "connecting???"

I found this, http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO10037 which seems to be something along the lines of what you have suggested. But again, need that Connector solution installed on the NS.
