Attachments opening WAY slower

Hi, we've been upgrading our SEP 11 to SEP 12 lately and some of our users are complaining that it's taking extremely long times to open up email attachments (we're using Outlook 2010). There is a setting in Outlook where you can disable the Symantec Endpoint Protection Add-In, and then opening attachments doesn't take as long.
A 150 KB attachment took 40 seconds, and a 1 megabyte attachment momentarily froze the computer and took between 2 and 3 minutes to open.
We know that it is SEP 12 causing the delay. Is there a setting in the SEPM console to speed-up the scanning of attached files? We do not want to disable this Outlook Add-in, because once word gets out that it's available, others will start using it.
Thanks,
Dan

For me if you have SBG and mail security inside the environment
For me if you have SBG and internal mail security (sms for exchange) inside the environment, it could be better to disable the SEP email antivirus policy.
Lets not disable it as there
Lets not disable it as there are vulnerablities which comes along with sms too .

Yes, by disabling it will
Yes, by disabling it will stop scanning the attachments. But the question is do you really need this? Once the attachment is downloaded on the local hard-disk, it will be scanned by your SEP auto-protect feature, so disabling outlook scanning should not cause an issue.
My company can do this,
My company can do this, because our email is scanned by a corporate gateway. Adding the SEP scanning of attachments is kind of redundant as everything passes through the corporate firewall first. Having this enabled at the client level only serves as an extra layer of protection. I will disable it for now and see what happens.

We disabled the protection at
We disabled the protection at the desktop as our email is scanned at the gateway, and it catches the risks before they are delivered to the user.
We did not believe that it was necessary to burgen the workstation with that task if it was already being done.
All of the risks we see are introduced through the intranet or flash drives. Nothing gets through email.
Attachment files are scanned by SEP if you save them to the computer.
Correct!
Khaskins82, yes, that was our issue too. We have disabled Outlook scanning. That seems to have done the trick.
Thanks for your help!
@Khaskins82 - i agree in
@Khaskins82 - i agree in that scenbario we could have two sets if email protection on gateway level and internal mail. all mails with attachment recieved by workstation guaranteed scanned on that two level.
Disabling protection in
Disabling protection in outlook..if user saved the attachment only the SEP will scan? or else?
