  • 1.  Audit Software Search Report and .exe Files Inventoried

One of my SMC users was inquiring about the Audit Software Search Report not showing an executable he was looking for somewhere under C:\Program Files.  Unless I missed it, I don't readily see anything that would be excluding the collection of .exe files in Program Files under the Advanced properties of the full/delta inventory policies.  Haven't touched these advanced settings so they should be at default.  I'd appreciate any insight on this behavior.

I do remember a behaviour from 6.0 where Software Inventory would only report the first instance of a Software Product/Version combination it found. So it might find a DLL for, say, Java 8.0.45.15 but then wouldn't report java.exe of the same version. Don't know if it still does anything similar.

BTW, I'm running SMP 7.5 and here's the full path to the file being searched for...

    C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\License10.3\bin\lmgrd.exe

Actually the Audit Software Search Report does find this file on 3 computers but we know that there should be quite a bit more out there.  Just don't understand why it finds stuff like iexplore.exe but not this executable and a few random ones I've tried that are in Program Files.

What if you use the Audit Software Search Report to look for the Product that is shown against the three found instances?

im wondering if one of 2 things ...

    1. is the software installed or a folder copied over? not sure if inventory catches that
    2. is the .exe 16bit? we had an issue and Symantec Tech said 16bit apps dont inventory....

Yes...the software is installed and the files we've been looking for happened to be 64-bit.

Anyway, I ended up opening a support case with Symantec awhile ago where even the analyst was stumped.  What seems to be happening is inventory's somehow getting flushed periodically where my monthly full inventory brings everything back.  I have no idea how long it takes before it disappears again and at this time since my monthly full hasn't run yet, I can tell that inventory's amiss once more.

Guess I'll open up a new case with Symantec in hopes that someone can figure out exactly what's going on with my SMP server.
