  • 1.  AUP License Expired Prior to DS Upgrade

About to upgrade DS from 6.8 SP2 to 6.9 SP5.  Our AUP expired in 2009.  I got two questions.

Do I need to install all the licenses after in consecutive order?  Or just load our current license file?

Our original license was for 360 nodes.  Our current support covers 310 clients.  Will adding this license reduce our client node limit in DS?

Based on what I am reading, you are not entitled to 6.9SP5.  You would only be entitled to the version that was current at the time of your AUP expiration.

If I am reading your post wrong and you re-established AUP for 310 clients, under the current version you would only be entitled to 310 client nodes in DS.  The remaining 50 clients from the old AUP could only technically be used on the version that was current at the time of the AUP expiration.

Expanding on that (assuming my second paragraph above is true), you would only install the current license file and not the previous licenses.

Hope that helps.  Let me know if I need to expand on that anymore or if you have more information that could help me clarify it more.

Yeah I know right now with my AUP expired, I can't do any upgrades.  But we've always paid for software maintenance.  We just never installed the new license files because it wasn't required.  We only installed license files on the NS side for patch maintenance.

But once I install the latest license file, I should be able to upgrade right?  I know we have access to 7.1 which we've tried but are holding off on migrating to.  Downgrading to 310 clients will still be ok but we'll be tight on our licenses.

Let me know just confirmation I can upgrade once applying the new license.

    Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that maintenance is the same thing as AUP.  In any case, if you have active maintenance agreements, then yes, you should be able to install the license file and upgrade accordingly.  Again, you will only have 310 clients.

    Hey Brian,

Thanks for the help and info.  Just to confirm I still called support on guidance and they too said that I would be able to upgrade to whatever was available at the time of AUP expiring.  The tech suggested I try with my original license and if that didn't work then to use my latest one.

I double checked when 6.9 first came out and it was prior to 2009.  So I chanced it with my original license and got the upgrade working with it.  So I can still use it with 360 clients.  Got some issues after the upgrade but getting help from support on it....nothing licensing related.  Anyhow thanks again for your help.
