  • 1.  Auto Upgrade Clients - package removal

    Posted Jan 20, 2015 02:07 PM

    Hello,

I have assigned an installation package to each of my groups in SEPM 12.1.5 using the following method: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH96789

Due to some deployment time changes (time of day and length of deployment), I need to modify each deployed package.

Is there a method to re-define the deployment time changes across every client group install package or will I need to go through each group and delete them so they can be updated?

is there a way to remove the package from all groups in one shot?

    Thank you in advance.

Just remove and re-add the package with the new times you need.

You can't remove in one shot but you can copy to other groups when setting up a new one by selecting the "Apply current deployment settings to other groups" on the Install Packages tab.

    Thank you,

That does work but it seems counter to the way the document specifies the initial upgrade path.

One last question, when a new client comes out and I deploy it to all the groups, will it overwrite the current client or will I need to remove the current install from all groups first? Using your method it sounds like this would take care if it.

You would need to remove the old package and apply the newest (latest) one.

upon trying the method I have found out that you can only update 1 group at a time.

Is there no way to do a broad upgrade of the client install files to all groups at once?

What do you mean? Apply the packages to the groups you want and they will being the upgrade.

for example: I have 40 groups, each with an OU from the domain in them. It is set up this way to allow for departmental AV exclusions as required by the business.

Using the copy the installer settings as you suggested, I can only then apply it to one OU at a time. Also, since they are not inheritable, I cannot apply to the group above, or root level groups.

If I wanted to take group A's settings and apply it to group B and C I would need to repeat the process twice and need to apply it to each OU.

    GROUP A

           OU-A

    Group B

           OU-B

    Group C

           OU-C

Using the "upgrade clients" in the admin setting, I can apply to all groups at once. Symantec, for some unknown reason, does not allow you to update the client install settings using this method. This is

Yea, I see what you're saying. Unfortunately you can only apply to one group at a time. Don't know why this is a limitation.

Ok, I was hoping I was missing something.

Do you, or anyone else know, if there is a feature request section anywhere? This seems like a basic feature.
