SEPM version is 11.0.5 on Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 32bit. Clients are all Server 2003 (32 and 64bit), Server 2008 (32 and 64bit) and Vista. I upgraded SEPM from 11.0.4202 to 11.0.5 and had to manually add the 11.0.5 packages to management console, not sure if that makes a difference.
The problem is that when I add an Install Package to upgrade a group from 11.0.4202 to 11.0.5, several of the servers have been hosed because it not only upgraded the client version, it added the NTP component and that killed network connectivity to some very critical servers such as Exchange. I made absolute sure to set the packages to only AV/AS and nothing else but it still upgraded them with NTP. That's not the only thing. When I was able to connect to the console via DRAC (Dell Remote Access Controller) and log in, Symantec was trying to install something and got stuck. It then asked me for the uninstall password...when it finished doing whatever, I opened the client to find that NTP had been added.
What is wrong with Symantec software? There seems to be a never ending list of issues with SEPM and the client software. Upper management is tired of hearing the excuse that SEP has caused yet ANOTHER host of problems on our servers and desktops.
