AutoInstall Install Engine: The users' hive could not be loaded; all users' settings may be lost.
Updated: 22 May 2010 | 3 comments
I recently upgraded to GSS2.5 and when i did AIPackages started complaining about:
AutoInstall Install Engine: The users' hive could not be loaded; all users' settings may be lost.
Why does me upgrading to a newer version of GSS cause AIPackage to malfunction... there are no problems when just moving files with AI but when registry is changed nothing happens on the target machines.

Anyone?
I really need this to work... i have 30 computers that i need to update 1-3 times a week and i cant be bothered to do it manually on everyone... :S
This is what your going to have to do! Reinstall the clients on all machines. Go to your console under Remote Client Install. Click on the plus sign next to the Network. I'm on an AD (Active Directory) so it showed me all the computers in my OU. (Organizational Unit). I held down the CTRL button and highlighted every PC. Typed in my credentials and had the clients install remotely. After reinstalling all clients I was able to deploy my AI's. I had the exact same problem, after updating, none of my AI's would work. You have to reinstall all your clients, well with 600 plus machines, the remote option was a life saver.
I think you can ignore the warning
This has been discussed many times in the past:
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/aipackage-errors
When deploying a package, AutoInstall attempts to determine the list of users on the system so that it can apply any necessary changes to their registry hives.
The warning you're seeing is when AutoInstall fails to find any users - or can't determine who they are - and therefore won't be able to mount their registry hives.
If you haven't got any registry changes or any user-specific changes in your package, then it may be safe to ignore this warning.

I'm not sure if there's a way to turn off the creation of users' hives when deploying a package. Do you have any existing users on your machine? If not, could you possibly create one and see what happens?

You can ignore the user's hive message - it seems to occur when no user is logged on at the time the package is deployed. As no-one is logged on, there's no user-specific part of the registry to load. Unless you're trying to only modify a particular user's settings, this doesn't matter. More at here and here.
