autoloader error - Backup Exec can’t see the Autoloader
hi all
we have a hp StorageWorks 1/8 autoloader. the error that we have is that Backup Exec can’t see the Autoloader; it can only see the tape drive, and it sees it as a Stand-alone unit instead of a Robotic Library.
can anyone please help me with this error that we have.
thanks

Hi,
Few questions:
-OS of media server
-Version of Backup Exec
-Type (make model) of Autoloader
-Is the Medium Changer appearing in Device Manager
Once you answer the above we should be able to help you further.
May the force be with you...

Hi, Can you see the robotics
Hi,
Can you see the robotics and the tape drive in Windows? If so, that means Windows can communicate with it. If not, make sure that the SCSI ID is set correctly. Check that it's not attached to an on-board SCSI/RAID controller. HP for example don't recommend this. If it is, I'd suggest you getting a SCSI card dedicated for that tape drive. Once you restart your server, it will detect it correctly.
Have you loaded the Symantec drivers for the autoloader? If not, you can do this from: Tools --> Wizards --> Device COnfiguration Wizard. Run through this, and then restart your services.
If you have done this, verify that Removable Storage isn't running. It's recommended you don't run that service with BE as it does tend to cause issues.
If that is stopped, you can also go: Tools --> Wizards --> Device Configuration Wizard, and select the option to Configure robotic library drives. You will be able to drag your tape drive onto the robotics.
Laters!

Hi,
What type of Autoloader is it?
Backup Exec 9.0 is quite old! You should consider moving it up to a later version!!

Do you have B.E. licensing
Do you have B.E. licensing for a robotic library?
I agree with Gilly-Bhoy
I agree with Gilly-Bhoy though, it is old and no longer supported.
BE 12.5 ships with a "courtesy" license for TLO, meaning you can use an autoloader with it.

SCSI ID is normally set to
SCSI ID is normally set to 4.
That autoloader can be set to use the same SCSI card, as long as it isn't a RAID controller, or has disks attached to it. This isn't an HP-supported configuration.
That autoloader is also on the HCL, and I just checked that so compatibility isn't the issue.
I'd now go 1 step further and delete the autoloader, and reinstall it. You can read up on that here:
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/255501.htm
Get the latest drivers for Backup Exec as well and install them when reinstalling the autoloader.
