Autologon for ServiceDesk 7.5 SP1

  • 1.  Autologon for ServiceDesk 7.5 SP1

    Dear All,

Does anyone know how to get Autologon working for ServiceDesk 7.5? I am using SD 7.5.3001.62 and I logon using an AD account that has been imported into the database. I have set the Master Settings to use AD Authentication and in the database, the AD Account Login is:

    <Domain>\<User>

When I use "whoami" as the user, i get the same.

I have not fiddled around with the installation and have used the process defined in:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO82032

Is there anything else that I need to do to get it working?

    Kindest regards,

    QuietLeni

Are you attempting to authenticate to the exact URL listed in your Local Machine info field here?

Africo is correct. The URL you are using must match the URL in your Integrated Authentication URL. In some installs you might see the port number (for example, http://SERVER:80/ProcessManager) Remove the :80 if it's present.

Additionally, in the portal navigate to Admin -> Portal -> Master Settings. Open up the Navagation section, and confirm the URLs here match as well.

Most likely your problem is in one or both of these locations.

    Guys,

Are you talking about the following settings?

    Base URL To Process Manager

    and

    Global Service Location URL

    the

    Base URL To Process Manager

I have made sure that these match the Authentication URL and when I type it into the browser on the server (for that is the ownly place that I can use it at the moment, I get:

Sorry, I didn't mean to actually USE that URL - I meant to ensure that you're using the same web site by name.  So in my example above:

    • http://sdb/ProcessManager - correct
    • http://localhost/ProcessManager - incorrect
    • http://10.0.0.1/ProcessManager - incorrect
    • http://sdb.domain.com/ProcessManager - incorrect
    • http://anythingelse - incorrect

Meaning that the name of the site itself should be the same everywhere.  In all my settings, whether it's for the authentication url (as pictured above) or for IncidentManagementURL, http://sdb must be used for all my links and URLs.

i did a poor job forming my question in my last post.  what i should have said is:

"Does the first part of the URL you're using match the first part of the URL found here?"

    Andrew,

Er, yes, it does. Hmmm. I am using:

    http://server.fqdn/ProcessManager

    I found a useful article:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO98406

And I did everything in that, too.

I ran an IISRESET. I also found that the "Symantec Workflow Server" service was running as Local System and changed that to use my domain ServiceDesk Service user account instead and restarted the service.

    Still the same.

    Oh dear.

The URL you (and your end user) typically use when accessing the portal via your browser should be used in the Integrated Authentication and the Base URL to Process Manager. For example, if I login to my portal with the following URL:

    http://ServiceDesk/ProcessManager

I would want my Integrated Authentication URL to match (it would be something like):

    http://ServiceDesk/ProcessManager/WindowsAuthentication.aspx

And my Base URL to Process Manager should be:

    http://ServiceDesk/ProcessManager

Additionally, it is important for your default server setup to contain the same URL. From LocalMachineInfoEditor, edit the default server. In my example the Deployment Root URL would be:

    http://ServiceDesk

    Hopefully this makes sense!

If your system is down, I suggest creating a case with Symantec Technical Support. Myself or a colleague would be happy to help!

In IE, Autologin is also going to be governed by the zone that the ProcessManager URL falls within in the browser and what the 'User Authentication' setting is for that Zone.

    For example:

Within IE, the 'User Authentication' setting by default  is 'Automatic login only in Intranet Zone' -

If the server 'sdb' is sitting in the 'Internet' Security Zone - Autologin will not work.

If the server 'sdb' is sitting in the 'Intranet' Security Zone - Autologin will work.

Of course, different browsers and OS's have different settings - this is simply the IE component.

Hi, Symantec Technical Support came on-line with me and checked around for a bit.

We found that IIS did not have "Windows Authentication" installed.

Once it was installed, all (well, not everything, of course!) was working OK.

In the Service Desk 7.5 Implementation Guide, this is not mentioned (only IIS6 Management Compatibility), so I suggested that this document also include ALL of the features and roles needed for ServiceDesk on Windows 2008 R2.

    Kindest regards,
