Endpoint Protection

Hi,

I have noticed that when a user logon's on to a computer which has symantec antivirus v 10.1.4 installed using the managed setup from the server.

For some reason the scan starts automatically in the background. How does one stop that scan?

As it really slows down the users computer.

1. Open the SSC, then right click on the parent server.
2. The follow the menus to All Tasks/Symantec Anti-Virus/Client Administrator Only Options
3. Then click on the "Scans" tab
4. Under the Startup Scans section, make sure that the "Run Startup Scans When User Logs On" is not ticked

We experienced the same with the above setting unticked. Our solution was:

Open the user's profile with the registry editor of your choice and change  HKCU\Software\Intel\LANDesk\Virusprotect6\CurrentVersion\CustomTasks\CreatedUserQuickScan from 1 to 0 (zero). That did the job.

It's definitly user-specific. It happens to the same user on different machines. And to no other users on these machines. I don't know the cause, but that's the way we solve it. But it's quite rare - it happens maybe once a week (9000+ PCs)
