  • 1.  automatic scheduled definition update not updating from parent server.

client pc's used to receive automatic updates from the parent symantec antivirus server but now the definition is not updating and therefore old. I'm able to deploy to clients and network communication is fine between clients and the server.  I don't understand what could be causing the problem.  We are running on Windows 2000 and SAV version 10. The server runs updates fine on itself. what could be causing this problem?

How are the clients trying to update?  Do they have the ability to go to the internet?  Can they only talk to the server?  Are they 32bit clients only or are they 64bit as well?  the management server can only update clients of the same opperating system type.  In other words, if the SSC is running on a 64bit server it will not update 32bit clients (all 2000 OS are 32bit)  through VDTM.

Please check Symantec System Center Console and if clients are not showing try to uninstall the clients and then reinstall them. If they are visible in the console chekout for ping request from the serve and the clients vice versa. Also check whether you can access the SAV folder by accessing the AV server.

Hi samiron7567, could you please explain why to exclude Symantec TCP port from the firewall as there is no firewall in place between the clients and the AV server.

If you talk about Windows Firewall, then please explain why to exclude Symantec TCP port from Windows Firewall?

Nice information Ajit. But I think those ports need to be excluded only when Firewall is up and running. Here there is no firewall in place, then why this is required?
