  • 1.  Automation Partition starts when we change the active partion

    Posted Oct 27, 2015 11:11 AM

We are inibed from working with pxe, so it has to be with local partition. The automation partition isn't working because we have dual boot, and when we change the active partition for changing the boot order, the automation partition comes in between and hangs the al process!

Very frustating! At this point almost 2 months of tests, and i'm unable to find a stable solution for deployng windows 8 for our 700 pc's on the universyty!!!

Why the atomation partition activates it self if the computer don't have any active task? That's the problem!

The fact of altering the active partition, shouldn't be trigger for the active partion to activate, don't you agree?

Have you tried creating a Automation Folder instead of Automation Partition? I switched over to that and it solved my problem of booting up every other reboot to automation side of the house. Also, even though you may not have PXE set up and running, if you go into the tools on the console and set the PXE configuration so that the first boot item is set to "Next Device (BIOS/EFI) that helps take care of it rebooting every other time to Automation Partition/Folder.

When you are in the Boot Disk Creator, click on your configuration and select create partation installer, on the first screen of the wizard it will ask you about the automation type, instead of using the default of Partition use "nstall a WinPE 5.X boot folder." See the attached screen show that should show you what to select. :)

OK, Sir! Thank you for your explanation!

Do you know how that works, when they say boot folder what's this, a partion?

I din't achive sucess yet but i'm trying for one more time...

Also when i tryed to create a uninstaller package, they mention automation partition or automation folder????!!!! i'm very confused, i installed HF3 but there's no documentation.

Not sure what the exact differences are between the Automation Folder and Automation Partation, but I find the Automation Folder easier to access on the local C:\Boot folder and use some of the utilities to tigger a reboot into the Automation enviroment. Using WinPE with the wizard, they create a *.WIM file which then you boot into Automation, that is the enviroment that it boots too. This *.WIM is also used in the PXE configuration as well.

I found this that kind of helps explain it a little, but you are correct, there is little to no documentation on this:

As of the HF3 for Ghost solution suite it supports automation folders in the console now and the following how to doc was made recently to discuss their use.  Sorry for the delay in getting this out it would have been nice if it were live when the hf3 released but it wasn't.   The link here may help future customers who find this thread.   Thank you Daniel for all your efforts.
