AV exclusions for MS operating systems

Created: 15 Jul 2013 | 5 comments

Hello all,

I am using SEP12.1.3 for 640 MS servers and 4000 MS workstations. Do we need to exclude files and folders per the MS kb article - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822158 or because SEP 12.1.3 uses a MS API, it is already aware of these files and I do NOT have to set global exclusions for the Group Policy, Sysvol and other files and folders as discussed in the above technote?

Thanks in advance!

This KBA explains what exceptions are added automatically and for what MS products

You can check the reg keys to see what exceptions are added. You may need to add more.

Thanks for the prompt reply Brian81 and the good information. Unfortunately, I do not see exclusions for Group Policy in there, nor sysvol or update exclusions. I am happy to confirm the AD exclusions on my DC's. But I need to know whether SEP is using MS APIs to scan and if that alone makes it un-necessary to exclude these files from scanning.

I've not seen anything to indicate SEP is. Support can confirm.
