AV scanning CIFS shares
Updated: 09 Nov 2010 | 2 comments
Originally, we were using SAV for NAS for our CIFS but due to poor performance this had to be stopped. Currently, our CIFS shares are not being scanned for malware. Obviously, this is a bad thing but is there anyway to use SEP to accomplish this? The plan would be to setup a dedicated PC just for this task and run weekly scans against the CIFS shares. My question is, how can I use SEP to scan these shares? Can I setup some sort of customized scan to accomplish this? Or can I map drives to these shares then configure a policy to scan network shares? Can a scan be setup to automatically scan a network share?

Stick with scan engine
You could potentially do what you are saying with SEP but I would stick with Scan Engine if I was you. It is the best solution for NAS and on demand type scanning.
How did you have the sav for nas scan engine setup?
Did you try tuning the policies to improve performance?
Did you try just having a scan engine machine with mounted drives and scheduled scans?
I agree with using SAV for
I agree with using SAV for NAS, this would take care of the issue.
It lasted about 3 days, literally. I did the install without having the chance to do any configuration. Our network engineer said it was killing performance. I said I didn't have a chance to configure it and next thing you know, I was told to turn it off. It came from above so nothing I could really do.
It never had a chance to get off the ground so this is why I ask about using SEP to do it. But I don't see anywhere in the console to set a scheduled scan and the ability to scan mapped network drives.
