Hello all!!!  My company just purchased Symantec Antivirus and I am helping with the deployment.  Before we can install the endpoint client we need to uninstall our previous antivirus.  We currently have Avast! free version 7 and 8 on alot of our desktops...  Does anyone have a silent uninstall script to uninstall Avast! with minimal to no human interaction?  Thank you for your time.

Have a look at SEPPrep. Here is the KBA for guidance which contains all the necessary info on how to run:

    SEPprep competitive product uninstall tool

You should be able to add Avast to the ini file.

Avast is already added to the .ini....  It does work, however the user has to click 6 times...   Is there anyway to fully automate the uninstall of Avast!.

Did you set the setting for Silent MSI installer?

I'm not sure how easily this can be done using SEPPrep. You may need to play around with the sepprep.ini file a bit.

I set it to y...  Where else would I add commnds to the ini?

    That is the only place:

SilentMSIInstaller: The SilentMSIInstaller option will allow the tool to run the uninstallation of the competitor silently. If this option is enabled then the competitor’s uninstallation will happen silently. This option can be set to Y or N. This is enabled by default.

Check these two settings in the ini file. Not sure which one Avast may use but you may need to add a silent switch to the appropriate one:

    • MSIExtraParameters: The MSIExtraParameters option will allow you to add additional parameters to the MSI uninstall strings. For instance this can be used if you need to add the MSI uninstall password or if you need to add some specific commands for the product being removed. These parameters are only added to the MSI uninstall strings.
    • InstallShieldExtraParameters: The InstallShieldExtraParameters option will allow you to add additional parameters to the InstallShield uninstall strings. For instance this can be used if you need to add a silent parameter or if you need to add some specific commands for the product being removed. These parameters are only added to the InstallShield uninstall strings.

Ok thanks for your help...  I'm guessing they use install shield, but this is all a little bit above my head now.
