AVG LinkScanner

This issue has been solved. See solution.

AVG has a nifty thing called LinkScanner (see: http://www.linkscanner.avg.com/).  Most of the infected machines that I have to work with recently have gotten infected via the web.  Does SEP 11 have this type of funtionality built in or available as a addon?

Solution

SEP doesn't have link-checking functionality like this.  The consumer product, if I remember correctly, might, but the corporate version does not.

If you'd like to see this, I highly recommend posting a suggestion to the Ideas tab.

Thanks, Chris

I think I will suggest it in the Ideas tab.  In the meantime, I think I will start installing the AVG product on my clients' machines since it is free.

AVG free

Free AVG isn't manageable like SEP is.  I believe they have a corporate version that can be centrally managed, but the free product isn't...so be aware that you're likely to have additional overhead having to touch each individual computer, rather than having a centrally managed solution.

Not talking about AVG Free

I am talking about adding AVG's LinkScanner, which also happens to be free, to my clients' machines running SEP 11 or SEPSBE 12.  But you are correct that LinkScanner is also unmanaged so I will be looking into scripting the install and pushing out the install via Kaseya or group policy.

You can use Symantec's

You can use Symantec's SafeWeb for checking links. This site gives users the ability to add comments about good or suspected bad sites. I make my kids enter the URL's in SafeWeb before going on to a site they have never visited before.
