B2D -> auto detect Failure? Fixed with restarting services

This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello,

I have 2 NAS devices, they get swapped weekly however backup exec fails to see which one if offline resulting in a backup failure.

They are both listed as online, but the backup wont work, when I restart the services, it is correct, 1 device UP / 1 device OFF.

And the backup also works.

What is going wrong here? Should I write a script that restarts the services each week or is it a bug?

Backup Exec 2010 R3

Best regards!

I think this is normal, BE cannot see the device anymore to which it last has written to.
You probably only have to restart the "Device and Media Service". If you indeed schedule it to restart after swapping the devices you are good to go.

When you swap the disk, there is no way for BE to detect the swap and which NAS is online or offline.  It is only during the write that this status is reported back to BE.

Instead of stopping and starting services, you can schedule an inventory on the disks.  This will let BE know the online/offline status of the disks.
