backing up a remote agent

Created: 29 Jan 2013 | 6 comments

Hi,

I'm running Symantec backup exec 2012 on my backup server. The problem I'm facing is I was able to add all the servers on my local control network to be backed up; howevere, I have a DMZ server that connects with my LCN through a firewall. I am trying to backup this server but when I try to add it using its IP, the symantec back exec fails. what are the possible solutions to back up my DMZ server? Thank you

Best Regards,

M Alshibl

Hi,

IP address would work in most circumstances. Is the server in the same domain or in its own domain? If in its own domain or in a workgroup, then you need to add that admin account into BE and make sure the BE RAWS agent uses this...

Otherwise, what is the exact error received?

Thanks!

The easiest way is to establish trust between the two domains.

I know of companies that won't allow trusts between domain servers & servers in a DMZ...to the point they want separate virtual infrastructure.

I honestly wouldn't add in the domain...it's there as a suggestion because it is possible. Adding in an IP address on the media server instead of using the server name (edit the hosts files on both servers to put in their respective details), and adding in the DMZ server's domain/local admin account into the media server should get around this.

Thanks!

Hi Craig,

Thank you very much; ya actually you are right that is the case the company here won't allow trust between our domain and the DMZ domain and thats why this problem exists. I will try adding the IP address to their hosts files and see what happens. Thank once again
