Backing up SQL using Backup Exec 2010

When doing a Resource Credential test I get the error 'An attempt to connect to SQL Server has failed. The logon account may have invalid credentials, or the logon account may have been applied to the wrong resource'. The backup job also fails.

The server sits on a different network with the relevant firewall rules configured and has been working until recently. The reason it stopped was due to changing the password on an domain account (of which the SQL server is not part of) which is not even being used for this backup operation. I don't know what the password was before so can't change it back.

I have created a new local admin account on the remote SQL server and created the login account in Backup Exec using the same username and password. I have also created a SQL login for the local user account with sysadmin, serveradmin, security admin, dbcreator and public but still get the error.

SQL is reporting error 0011 which is a password mismatch but I have set the password the same in all 3 locations as below.

  • Backup Exec Login Account = ServerIP \ AccountName
  • Remote Server local admin account = AccountName
  • Remote Server SQL Login = ServerName/AccountName

If anyone can help I would really apreciate it.

In Backup Exec, define logon

In Backup Exec, define logon account without domain/machine name. Also, check which one is your system logon account. Try running a backup and provide results.
