Hi

We cuurently use Backup Exec 12.5 to backup our Virtual Machines, all VM's to this point have been windows 2003, our new VM's are now Windows 2008R2, Our setup is as follows

We have a physical Sevrer with Windows 2003 installed that currently runs the Backup Exec software and has the Tape drives, this is connected into the San Via Fibre and can see all of the LUNS.

We use the backupexec GRT technology, we do not deploy any remote agents into the Virtual Machines, i seem to see mixed answers as to the support backing up / restoring in this way with Windows 2008R2 Virtual Machines, i see some documentation that said you can only backup windows 2008 r2 servers using a remote agent.

Could anyone confirm this

Thanks

Nick

You should be able to backup

You should be able to backup any VM (windows or linux) using Backup Exec 12.5.  GRT is only available for Windows machines, to restore individual files back to the windows VMs you will have to install a remote agent on them as well.

Are you getting any errors when you try to backup the 2008r2 VMs?
