Backking up from cluster

Created: 01 Oct 2012 • Updated: 04 Oct 2012 | 15 comments

Dear All,

we have a 2-node cluster. Quorum drive Q: was active on lets say server-1, when we added the cluster in order to back it up. After server-1 got restarted, quorum Drive Q: became active on server-2, so now when i go to backup the cluster there is no drive Q:.

So how can we see the Drive no matter whichever server is the owner?

Thanks

Michalis

Typically, RAWS needs to be installed on both the nodes of the cluster. This will allow Backup Exec to see the cluster node for backup. This way you can backup the shared resources (Quorum) without getting affected by Fail overs.

What is the version of Backup Exec. Also is this a 2008 Application cluster?

Hello  Jaydeep,

both nodes have RAWS installed. for some reason the drives only appear when tey are active on the server from which they were added. i mean Q drive is appearing on server-1 but not once it has failed over to server-2.

this behaviour is happening on all 3 of our clusters.

thanks for your reply.

Hi,

There would be a cluster wizard you need to run within BE to make it recognise the cluster. That said, check the link below as it might have more information for you:

Thanks!

Hello CraigV,

i tried your suggestion but is giving me this!

The backup exec is version 2010 R3.

Is there a specific error message around this in the Alerts tab of BE?

there is no actual error since there is no job!

my problem is that when i go to select the Drive i cannot see it! thats my problem, i can see only shares.

In that case, make sure that the RAWS agents on the physical nodes are started under services.msc and that they are publishing correctly to your media server.

Also make sure that if you are running a firewall on the physical nodes that they are either disabled or that port 10000 is allowed.

OK i did what you said, i make sure that RAWS is correctly installed, running and they are publishing to the media server.

still though, though the same thing happens, i can see physical nodes but not the drive letter.

Firewall is disabled completely

...have you restarted the media server? If this doesn't do the trick then I will hit the support flag on this for you.

of course!, i restarted the BE services first, it didn't change anything and then i restarted the whole server.

i still cannot see the drive

...Hit the support flag for you. If you get a resolution would you mind closing this off with details?

Don't think this was asked ~ Are you browsing via the virtual node in the backup selections ?

michalisk's picture

by virtual node you mean the cluster application name correct? yes this is where the drive letter is missing, depending on which physical server node is active.

hello,

any news with my problem? problem still exists

If you have support, then open a call with Symantec and if they help you find a solution, post back here and close it off.

I will hit the support flag in the meantime.

THanks!
