Backup Agent crash - VCS Problem

Created: 06 Aug 2013 • Updated: 06 Aug 2013 | 10 comments

Hey everyone,

i have to restore a backup from a Mircrosoft Cluster to a normal Windows Server 2008 SP1 using Backup Exec 2012.

The agent crashes after a few minutes. I get the Message at the tray icon that the agent is working, but nothing else.

BEREMOTE: [08/06/13 10:28:24] [4744]     VCS cluster keys do not appear to be present in the registry
BEREMOTE: [08/06/13 10:28:24] [4744]     Did not detect VCS cluster ()
BEREMOTE: [08/06/13 10:28:24] [4744]     "Cluster" key is not present in the registry

is this error/warning important for me?

The Attachment includes the logs from the Loggingtool.

any ideas?

best regards,

stefan

What data are you attemoting to restore. If you are restoring something like System state, you would need to redirect it to a folder.

Can you please upgrade your backup exec and remote agent on the nodes to be 2012 sp2

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH203155

we are upgrading currentlly. i will tell you as soon as possible.

I saw a few lines here about a database restore. Going by this the databases seem to be using a mount point

Originally where have they been placed? Also are you using redirection for this.

The original DB is on Malter, and the backup tape should be restored in Austria. No redirection used

What kind of database is this? Are you restoring from disc or tape?

Please see this link for steps on restoring a SQL database to a different location: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH191114

MS SQL Server 2008 R2 and the restor happens from tape

If you are redirecting the restore of SQL databases, here are a few points to remember -

1. The Remote agent on the traget server needs to be at the same patch level as the media server. Easier way to find out is compare the file versions of beremote.exe on both servers.

2. SQL instance needs to be present on the target server and needs to be at least same patch level as the source (or updated to later).

3. You cannot redirect the SQL databases to a file system.

Is the destination volume F: encrypted? Could you attempt restore to an alternate volume? Also, we will need a crash dump to analyze further. Please gather .dmp file located inside BEDBG folder under your Backup Exec install directory.

i will post the dump as soon as i get it.
