Hi!

Here is my situation that I am trying to correct:  I have 4 old backup-to-disk (B2D) files that were written to a RAID and were removed from the RAID by deleting them from the Windows side.  This was done by mistake by a backup specialist trainee.

In Backup Exec 2010 R3, these 4 files still can be still be seen under Media Set, "File Share Transfer" and there is nothing the "Media Location" column for each one.  At this point, I know I can't simply move them into the "Retired Media" set so they can be deleted from BE2010R3.

I would greatly appreciate if anyone has any ideas/suggestions on how I can correct this situation and get these B2D files deleted from Backup Exec!

Hello Grayc,

You can move those B2D files to Retired media set by right clicking and Associating with retired Media set. Then go to Retired media set and right click delete those files.

As those files nomore exist on the physical location it will not show up again after removing it from retired media set.

Thanks,

Hope this piece of Information Helps you... and if it does then mark this response as Solution....!!!

Hi Sush!

That worked!  Thanks so much!

I did not realize I could still associate the B2D files with Retired Media so I can delete them.  So, since the actual physical files were already deleted under Windows, what I was seeing in Backup Exec was a reference annotation in the BE catalog which was still under my control!  Had not thought of that in those terms!

Again, thanks for the suggestion!  It worked like a charm!
