Backup Error: -1022 There is a disk IO error
Updated: 23 May 2010 | 4 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.
An Exchange 2007 differential backup runs into the the following error:
-1022 There is a disk IO error
Backup Exec is Version 12.5 with SP2 and all Hotfixes applied
Job runs onto a B2D Device on a IBM DS3400.
If you change the storage location to a local B2D device (HDD of the Exchange), the Backup works correct.
If you do the changes from article http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/318535.htm, it leads to the backup running without no end.
Had to be cacled after 14 hours.
A full backup of exchange to the B2D device on the IBM DS3400 works perfect.
Any idea?

Make sure both the full and
Make sure both the full and the differential are running to the same volume first off.
You also may want to run the B2DTest tool to verify that the device is going to work as a B2D folder.

like I said:
Full backup to storage -> no problem
diff backup to storage -> error
diff backup to local harddisk -> no problem
Volume on the storage is the same for full and diff. backup
it's very strange...

new full backup
After creating a new job and doing a new full backup to the device, the differantial backup also completed without the above error.
Now we get another, VSS related error, but this is handled in another forum thread...
