Backup eVault
Hi all,
we have eVault 9 and BE 2010 running here.
The Admin who has has installed the system is no more working here, so I'm trying to understand how the backup works.
If I opne the backup jobs within BE i see a within resource a separate tree for "Enterprise Vault" with this subtrees:
Audit DB
Directory DB
Monitoring DB
Evault-Archive
But i can find the drive "c" from the evault server in the list. So i have created a addition backup job and select the whole server (with dirve "c") within recources-domain -microsft networks - domain- evault server, jsut the same way like all other servers.
But failing by every backup with an error, check the correct backup agent. (0xe000846b)
Maybe i doing it completly wrong Im not sure. Can anybody help me please?
Thank you

For the EV agent, indeed use the Enterprise Vault resource tree in BE. This will put EV in backup-mode.
You say the backup of EV fails, what error do you get ?

For EVbackups, you need to perform a backup of the complete Tree "Enterprise Vault" and additionally also backup the C drive and System State on the Server for Disaster Recovery purpose.
About the error that you are getting, try to see if the Backup Exec Remote Agent is running on the EV Server and the SQL Server which is used as a bckend for this EV installation.
Also have these agents updated so that tey are at the same service pack and patch level as the Backup Exec Server.
ahhh i understand,
for evault Im using a special evaul backup agent. ok
The backup jobs which were configured by the admin who has left us running allways seccufully, because this jobs are configured with the evaul resource tree.
and I was trying to create a Job which is backing up the volume "c" over the other trees domain-windows and so on and this jobs are fails. So I know why i should only backup with this evault tree.
But i can't see the the volumes within this tree :-( i can only see the mssql db's and evault archive tree.
Mssql db's and evault archive tree is the EV data you need to backup.
If you don't have a separate Backup Exec Remote Agent (RAWS) license the C:\ backup may fail.

Hi,
i have raws for windows server as well but as i thought i can't install both agents on the same client.
Or Im wrong?
Yes you are correct, you would only install the RAWS for Windows Server and the EV option gets activated from the Media server License key.
You can backup complete EV and the C drive and System State from the EV Server using the same license.
Hi,
Im not sure i allready have it, because i see the additional tree for EV in the backup wizzard and if i go through the network tree i see the evault server as well. Or how i can check that whether i have the raws allready installed?
Thank you
Logon to the EV and/or SQL server and see if there is a Backup Exec Remote Agent Service running.
yeah is running on both systems, is it this service responsible for the evault additional backup agent or the windows server agent?
No, it is the remote agent that gathers EV info for backups as well. Also that EV icon in the selection means that you have EV option installed.
In short you are good to go.. Well, start backing up data.
hmmm, exactly that what is not running, see my first posting
I think you better open a call with Symantec Support.
They can remotely view your session and see and troubleshoot what's wrong.
