Backup Exec 11d program doesnt execute

Hi,

Iam having Windows 2003 server and we have installed Symantec Backup Exec 11d. Uptill fex days back program was working properly but suddenly it has stopped.

Following are the observations

1. When we log into the server we get error "Backup Exec User Interface encountered a problem and needed to close"

2. Program starts and display "Connecting to Media Server" and then program closes down automatically.

I have restarted / switched ON and Off Tape Library and did same thing with server but still same problem exists.

I dont know whether Scheduled jobs are getting executed or not.

Please let me know if anyone has solution for my problem.

Hi Kiran,

which version of BE 11D are using using? If rev 6235, my suggestion would be to move to BE 11d rev. 7170 first, applying patches and the latest SP for BE 11d. Then try again.

if you're already on that, you can also try the following:

1. Opening up BEutility and changing the service account details. You should be using the same service account, and all that it will do is reset the password on the account in Windows services.msc.

2. If this doesn't work, run a BEDB repair using BEutility.exe. It is non-intrusive and doesn't change anything...any issues are simply fixed.

3. Make sure all your BE services are started up correctly, especially the SQL server service for BE which should be started up first.

Report back with an update on the outcome.

Hi,

Its already at 7170 revision. for second part i cant execute any command using BEutility becuase it closes down within 3 - 4 seconds.

Anyother way i can access BEutility.

nope, that is the only way...try running the repair of BE through Add/Remove Programs then and see if this resolves it...
