Backup Exec 11d Support - Backup Task Creation
Hello All
I would like to create a backup Job but hav encountered a few challenges;
I have an iSCSi box I use for user backups and this box has 5TB of storage. It does not seem a lot but is a mission to backup. The option to use tape backup is yet to be deployed but in the interim I am using external HDD for a disk-to-disk backup plan. I have created 2 jobs that cater for server system state backups and another for user end backups to maximise on the process. I also created 2 device pools for removable media with the backup plans in mind and dedicated external storage for both.
The challenge now is that when I I try to backup I get the error 'Please insert overwritable media into the Backup-to-disk device'. When I check the settings on the backup job, I see that the parameter for when the job begins is set to Overwrite media.
Surely as I am using removable media I must be able to overwrite it as there are no permissions set on the media nor is there any management software for the drive to block an overwrite.
Please assist.

Hi,
That's the correct setting, but if you don't have media to overwrite or the drive is full, you'll get that message.
Make sure the Append/OPP settings on your media sets are correct.
Thanks!

Thanks Craig.I will check as advised. The drive that forms the backup set is empty and the drives number 3 in total giving me 3TB to play with.

Hello Team
After having deployed the solutions as recomended I still find myself unable to perform a backup to my media .
I have been successful in backing up to a HDD on the iSCSI box with no issues but as te space there is limited I needed to backup the data to the external storage drives but this is yet to happen.
I have attached screendumps to show the stste of the configs and the hardware available.
Please assist
I think you have to create normal B2D folder on external hard disk instead of creating Removable B2D.

...what are your B2D settings?

Hello
Please see config for one of the B2D locations in the screenshot below;
OK, so your first (quite serious) issue is the fact that you have set your B2D file @ 900GB. If that file corrupts, you're going to see all your data corrupted too, and you're probably not going to be able to restore anything out of it.
The default is 4GB...set it to that first, and then try running the backup again. With the B2D file size set@ 900GB, and the B2D only being able to store 910GB, this could be the reason why you're getting your issue.
Make that change, and then try again.
You can always increase the size of the B2D files a bit, but don't make them too big as you will run the risk of not being able to restore anything in the case of a file corruption!
Thanks!

Hello Team
I apologise for not having reverted in time. I had to attend to some personal busines and it took longer than expected to resolve.
I effected the change as recommended above and performed this change of all devices in my FullBackup pool but I still find that the backup process terminates dieto insufficient disk space yet I have 3*1TB drives plugged in to backup 1.8TB.
I have attached screenshots that show what i am seeing here.
Please advise where I have lost the plot?
