Backup Exec 12.5 - can you have a job to just auto erase a tape?
Updated: 03 Jun 2010 | 5 comments
Hi
I have been trying to figure this out to no avail unless I am missing the obvious. Is it possible to create a job in Backup exec 12.5 to just erase the current tape in the loader?
We want it to run on certain days.
Any ideas?

You do not need to erase the
You do not need to erase the tape before you re-use it. When your job overwrites the tape, all the old data will be gone.

Yes, you do have an erase job
Yes, you do have an erase job in Backup Exec. Right click on tape and click "quick erase" to erase data there. Although, Backup Exec would erase and overwrite data when running an overwrite backup job.
Please mark it a solution, if this is useful.
Thanks
Hi I know I can do it
Hi
I know I can do it manually like Hemant said but wanted a job to auto do it.
At the moment the company standard is to apend, and overwrite if necessary. I have already asked the question, why not change to just overwrite and waiting on a response.

An erase followed by append
An erase followed by append is exactly what an overwrite would do with less mess.
This is how
Hey Slewis1972,
Not sure you still need this, but thought I'd share. I've used this feature for similar reasons, so yes it can be done.
On the Devices tab, right click on your drive in question, select Inventory (or Erase, Eject or whatever you need)
When the next box opens with the options, simply set the schedule on the left for when you would like the feature to be run and you're done.
Good luck.
