Did you upgrade your existing

Did you upgrade your existing media server to v12.5?  or did you start from scratch on the new server?

if you created a new install see http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/321261.htm to import a copy of your old catalog

If this response answers your concern, please mark it as a "solution"

You can right-click on the

You can right-click on the tapes and associate them with the appropriate media set.

You can check whether your cataloging work by trying to restore something that had been backed up onto the tapes.

Thanks for the reply... let

Thanks for the reply...
let me explain you in detail how I done the migration, probably I forgot something or I’ done something wrong....
before start, using the BEUtility I’ve enabled the Debug Logs. (Set to Max, including SQL, Jobs, Message Log, Media Server, Administrator Console).
The migration began with the update of Backup Exec 10.1D to Ver. 11. This because I read a document in Symantec which says that was necessary because its not supported migrate directly from 10.1D to 12.5. Anyway, after migrating to ver. 11, I’ve stop the services and made a copy from the Entire Backup Exec installation Directory. Finally, I started the services and made a backup of the configuration using "Copy Server Configuration" Feature. After that, the server was shut down.

On a new server, I made an O.S fresh install, then I made the entire configuration required to Backup Server, (Drivers, San Disk, Access to library, etc) and also I done a fresh install of BE 12.5. Then I proceed to stop the services and copy the catalog folder from the old BE 11 to my new BE 12.5. Then I start the services and import the .cfg configuration file obtained in BE 11... And finally, I’ve done a live update (including BE SP3 and later fixes).During all these steps, I got no error, or warning.

The new BE12.5 works fine... it has all my jobs defined in BE 11, it's using the same Credentials Account defined on the old BE, and also I can see the entire Restore list created on the old BE. Now, my only problem is the media tape formatted & used on the BE 10; they are not imported on the new Be 12.5. According to Symantec, they should be "automatic" imported.
One last test, I’ve added new Tapes to my library, and these are recognized correctly in the new be12.5, and also in the BE 11.

So what should I do now to recognize / import the BE 11 Tapes?

Thanks !.

If you ONLY copied the

If you ONLY copied the catalog folder and used the copy server config option then it will not take across the contents of your media sets.

The way you should have done it (assuming DLO and CASO are not involved) anyway would have been to migrate the database (using BEMIG.EXE and an OSQL command to change the servername) as well as copy the catalogs - instead of using the copy config option.

If you still have the database from the 11D server you can correct this - although you will now lose any information for jobs that you have run on the new server since.

You wil kind of have to mixx 2 documents to do it:
First one is how to move an installation to a server with a different name (but same version of Backup Exec)
http://support.veritas.com/docs/319367
Second one is how to miggrate a database from an old version to a new version:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/287063
You will need to follow the first document until you have run the OSQL command (section IV step 5 - don't run step 6 yet)
Then do the BEMIG stuff in the second document
Then continue on from step 6 in first document

Your other option is to catalog all the tapes but this will NOT put them into the correct media sets or keep their current protection settings

Upgrade Successfull ... but no catalog.

I’ve ended change the migration for upgrade on site process… what I did was turn on my old be 10.1d and upgraded to 11d.after installing all the patch available, the 11d was updated to ver. 12.5. Again, installed all the patches (SP3 and later fixes). So now my server its running BE 12.5, I can see my, Media Set, jobs, library’s... seems fine... but I’ve lost the Catalogs!! I don’t understand why... but when I try to do a file restore, the wizard show me the date of my previous backups (all the dates since 2009.. until here ok) however, when I pick a date and try to expand to select the folders / file... Its show me nothing…blank space. this happens with all the previous backups, not just with one.

If I did an upgrade, the installation process should upgrade the database right?

What should I do, how troubleshoot this problem? Catalog the media tape will work? I try inventory, scan, and didn’t help. Don’t worry, I still have a copy of the entire server running my old be 10.1.d.

Thanks.
